Expedition Summary We kicked off the 2011 Colorado Backcountry Adventure Film School with a breathtaking night of snowcamping at St. Mary's Glacier. Literally. It was 10 below zero and the winds were howling through our campsite at 60+MPH. Perfect conditions for Michael Brown to relay the filmmaking and survival skills he's acquired through five trips to the summit of Mt. Everest and over 60 other expeditions. That was just a warm-up for our beautiful 4-mile trek from Copper Mountain to the 10th Mountain Division Hut we'd call home for the next two days, Janet's Cabin. Conditions couldn't have been better in the backcountry. Fresh powder and miles of open terrain to ourselves.

Update: This school is an annual success because of the spectacular mountain setting and informative film topics. For this version of the Colorado Backcountry Adventure Film School, we were joined by an avalanche safety guide, professional mountain guides and meteorologists who served as great film subjects. We set up tents in a spectacular snowy meadow one night and spent two nights deep in the backcountry at rustic Janet's Cabin. As part of the Adventure Matters Program, we were happy to award a full scholarship to a qualified and highly motivated film student from Denver. The highlight of the trip was the late night film technique discussions in the Janet's cabin sauna.
