Colorado Backcountry 2009 Trip Itinerary
Day 1 (January 20): Evening Avalanche Class & Orientation Dinner
Arrive in Boulder morning or mid-day (flight arrival to DIA no later than 3pm). Three to four hours of avalanche classroom education. Orientation dinner with all students, guides, instructors, & friends held at The Mediterranean. Overnight in Boulder hotel.
Day 2 (January 21): Avalanche Field Work & Snow Camping
Early drive up to beautiful Summit County in the Colorado Rockies. Avalanche safety field training and exercises. Overnight snow camping in quiet mountain setting.
Day 3 (January 22): Ski into Backcountry Hut
Early move to Copper Mountain Ski Resort. Take free ride up lifts and then ski through backcountry gate and down the backside of mountain. Day of ski touring to backcountry hut. Overnight in Janet’s Cabin.
Day 4 (January 23): All Day Ski Tour
Full day of backcountry ski touring. Ski out to road and take group transportation back down into Boulder. Overnight in Boulder hotel.
Day 5 (January 24): Editing Instruction
First day of editing. Students will learn how to organize projects, capture footage, and begin editing of their films. All editing will be held at GW Hannaway & Associates media lab. Overnight in Boulder hotel.
Day 6 (January 25): Editing Session
Second day of editing. Students will continue editing their films with help from Serac instructors. Overnight in Boulder hotel.
Day 7 (January 26): Editing Session & Student Film Festival
Final day of editing. Students will learn how to put the finish touches on their films and export. Evening screening of all student films with friends and family. Graduation ceremony will conclude the school. Overnight in Boulder hotel.
Day 8 (January 27): Student Departure
Serac Adventure Film School concludes and students fly home.
