2010 Colorado Backcountry Adventure Film School Itinerary
Day 1 (Monday, January 25): Orientation & Kick-off Dinner
Arrive in Boulder, Colroado morning or mid-day (flight arrival to DIA no later than 3pm). Starting at 5pm Michael Brown and Tim Brown will give short presentations on adventure filmmaking and avalanche safety respectively. Kick-off dinner at 7:30pm with all students, guides, instructors, & friends held at Sherpa's Restaurant. Overnight in Boulder hotel.
Day 2 (Tuesday, January 26): Avalanche Field Work & Snow Camping
Early drive up to Vail Pass in the Colorado Rockies. Avalanche safety field training and filming. Ski out into backcountry area and establish campsite. Overnight snow camping.
Day 3 (Wednesday, January 27): Ski into Backcountry Hut
Day of filming and avalanche field work on ski tour to backcountry hut. Overnight in Janet’s Cabin.
Day 4 (Thursday, January 28): Skiing, Shooting & Second Overnight in Hut
Full day of skiing and filming in the backcountry around the hut. Spend a second night in Janet’s Cabin.
Day 5 (Friday, January 29): Skiing, Shooting & Return to Boulder for Edit
Morning ski tour out to Copper Mountain Ski Resort and drive back down into Boulder. Afternoon move to GW Hannaway & Associates media lab for intial edit instruction. Students will learn how to organize projects, capture footage and begin editing of their films. Overnight in Boulder hotel.
Day 6 (Saturday, January 30): Editing Session
First full day of editing. Students will learn how to use tools and functions of Final Cut Pro while editing their films together. Overnight in Boulder hotel.
Day 7 (Sunday, January 31): Editing Session
Second full day of editing. Students will continue editing their films with help from Serac instructors. Overnight in Boulder hotel.
Day 8 (Monday, February 1): Editing Session & Student Film Festival
Final day of editing. Students will learn how to put the finishing touches on their films and how to export for the web. Screening of all student films with friends and family, 7pm at the Dairy Center for the Arts. Graduation ceremony will conclude the school. Overnight in Boulder hotel.
Day 9 (Tuesday, February 2): Student Departure
Serac Adventure Film School concludes and students fly home.
