UPDATE... All of the Serac Adventure Film School students made it to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and then spent a weekend in Boulder editing their films. The results are worth seeing - we are submitting them to film festivals in the coming months.

Serac Adventure Film School featured in the May 2007 Outside Magazine 'Hot List'

Filmmakers will climb Kilimanjaro and film with renowned director Michael Brown. Michael has taken cameras to the top of Everest on four occasions. Michael’s films have garnered more than 30 film festival awards, and he is the recipient of three national Emmy Awards.

This Fall Michael has been invited to be an instructor at the 2007 Banff Adventure Filmmakers’ Seminar in Canada, which will precede the annual Banff Mountain Film Festival.

Serac Adventure Films will guide you through the stages of successful filmmaking: 
  • Pre-Production: Learn how to create a compelling story and develop characters while you prepare your gear for the high mountains.
  • Production: You will experience the thrills of climbing Kilimanjaro while directing and shooting your own film.
  • Post-Production: Join us in beautiful Colorado for an intensive weekend of editing with Final Cut Pro.

Safari Options are available after the climb through MountainVision. The MountainVision Team is made up of Jeff Evans and Gavin Attwood, team members on blind climber Erik Weihenmayer's historic 2001 ascent of Mount Everest.

During the weekend of October 5 - 7, Serac Adventure Films will hold a three-day instructional editing retreat in beautiful Colorado. You will learn to edit on computers supplied by Apple and loaded with the latest version of Final Cut Pro software.

The experienced crew at Serac will teach you how the pros do it – from organizing and digitizing footage; to editing and adding music. On the final night, we’ll celebrate the world premiere of your films at our very own film festival.

Production - 10 Days (September 12 - 21): $3,400.00
Mount Kilimanjaro-Tanzania, Africa
This will cover expenses from when you get off the plane to when you get back on. (with the exception of gear, gifts, and alcohol.) You will be staying at the Ngurdoto Lodge before climbing Kilimanjaro and then at the Impala Hotel following your ascent.
Plan on arriving in Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport by September 13, 2007.

Safari Option - 4 Days (September 21 - 24): $1,490.00 (optional)
Tanzania, Africa
This all-inclusive safari takes you to Africa's famous Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara.
This will cover all expenses while on the safari with the exception of (gear, gifts, and alcohol).
Plan on departing Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport on September 24, 2007.

Post Production - 4 Days (October 4th - 8th): $2,430.00
Boulder, Colorado
For the post-trip editing weekend you'll be staying at the Hotel Boulderado, right in the heart of downtown Boulder. Film editing will take place in the Wyndham Hannaway Media Lab, located on the world famous Pearl Street Mall.

Transportation from the Denver International Airport, breakfast, orientation dinner, and the final night's dinner is included. Orientation dinner is at the Mediterranean Restaurant at 7pm on October 4, 2007.

Tuition: $4,995.00
This includes: instruction on the mountain, editing, course materials, use of editing computer with Apple's Final Cut Pro, and we'll also digitize your footage into the editing computers prior to the Post-Production weekend in Boulder.

Total: $10,825.00

Total w/ Safari: $12,315.00

Friend & Family Member Discount:
Any friend or family member joining a student of the film school as a subject/climber will be offered the discounted rate of $2,900.00 for their Mountain Vision expedition fee.
