Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
Jackson, Wyoming

Film School StudentWe’re combining the knowledge and expertise of the Outside Adventure Film School with the beautiful landscape and epic terrain of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Located in a dramatically shaped glacial valley, housing two national parks, thousands of free roaming bison, wolves and elk, deep snow, lies the classic old west town of Jackson (with a real western attitude). Before attending the film school we highly recommend you kick back and enjoy a few of the ski classics shot here, including: Teton Gravity Research movies, Cable to the Sky (the history and making of the new Aerial Tram), Swift.Silent.Deep. (the first true historical documentation of hardcore ski bum culture in North America). Most recently, Tarantino’s new western movie, Django Unchained (to be released Dec 25, 2012), was shot in the valley of Grand Teton with its' inspiring peaks providing the backdrop.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has 2,500 acres of legendary inbounds terrain, a 4,139' vertical rise (the largest is North America), 459" of average snowfall each winter, and unparalleled backcountry access providing a truly unique winter experience. During this film school students will gain the knowledge and confidence to shoot in wintertime conditions, including both inbounds and out of bounds filmmaking opportunities (whichever you prefer). Professional mountain guides will be on hand both for safety and as potential interviewees.

All students will devote their week to shooting in world-class ski terrain and editing their own short adventure films, which they will present during the Student Film Festival, open to the public at the Pink Garter Theater, on the final night of the school. All films will also be entered into the Wyoming Film Office’s Shorts Contest that boasts a $25,000 first prize.

We are excited to have accomplished filmmakers joining us throughout the week like Dirk Collins, co-founder of Teton Gravity Research and the founder and CEO of One Eyed Bird Entertainment. Also among the schools’ guest instructors is Rex Pemberton, a cinematographer, avid adventurer, and the youngest Australian to summit Mount Everest. Rex’s wife, Melissa Pemberton, an accomplished aerobatic stunt pilot, will be in Jackson for the week as well. Darren Larsen, a glacier research scientist at the University of Colorado, will also join as a special guest with experience in mountaineering, big wall climbing, and ski touring. The Lexington at Jackson Hole is providing professional editing space along with discounted rooms and suites ($89 courtyard rooms, $99 suites per night). We are also working with Exum Guides to spend a day shooting in the backcountry up Mail Cabin Canyon.
