Outside

Expedition Summary

Students convene at the Hotel Santa Fe to pitch films on a wide range of subjects. One exciting aspect of this school is that we are working with Outside Magazine editors. What better way to emphasize one of the most crucial elements of filmmaking than to enlist a crew of storytelling masters?

Update: Working with Outside Magazine's staff was a thrill for students and instructors alike. Whether shot on site like Allison Otto's Danger (based on a dog who can fetch beer from a 'fridge), or culled from a wide variety of footage shot past and present like Sam Bricker's The Lost Almost Boys, student films benefited from the expertise of Outside staff like Grayson Schaffer and Joe Spring. Another highlight was spending a day trekking through gropple and snow with Dave Hahn, a 12-time Everest summiter (world record-holder for non-sherpas) who proved to be an articulate storyteller himself.
