"This past June I had the distinct pleasure of attending the Serac Adventure Film School, taking place at the 2008 Teva Games in Vail, Colorado. I was impressed by the professionalism and knowledge of the staff and the resources the students received on a consistent basis.
As a teacher of Language Arts and Film, I have a sense of storytelling and the tools necessary to encourage students to compose strong storylines. What impressed me about Michael and his staff was their emphasis on the Hero’s Journey as a point of departure for our own films. They not only provided examples from Serac’s award winning films, but shared books and resources that were helpful points of departure. Throughout the week, Michael referred back to these themes and the texts, challenging us to think beyond the visuals we captured during the competition days of the Teva Games.
Michael and his team spent much of the four days checking on the status of the individual teams, working from a strong sense of intuition, stepping in for guidance when they felt it was needed. Each one of them was confident, secure, yet respectful of our own visions. During the editing process, I was equally impressed with their knowledge and efficiency. Most importantly, all the instructors were easy to be around and fun to be with, creating a community of students and experts coming together around a common passion for film and storytelling.
My experience at the Serac Adventure Film School has impacted me on both a personal and professional level. I will certainly be coming back for more!"
